biography
Professor at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory of Music in Rome, composer, conductor, pianist, clarinetist, orchestrator and arranger, he is considered one of the leading representatives of Italian music worldwide.
A prestigious role earned both thanks to his multi-award-winning work as a composer of soundtracks for highly successful films, and to his acclaimed concert performances in Italy and abroad.
He has composed music for over three hundred productions including films, documentaries, short films, TV dramas, TV programs, commercials and radio dramas. He is also the author of songs, classical music compositions and educational works.
In 2024 he won the prestigious World Soundtrack Award for the soundtrack of the film La Guerra dei Nonni.
This renowned international honor — regarded by industry insiders as the “little brother” of the Oscars — is awarded every year in Belgium by the World Soundtrack Academy, which selects the best music for cinema and TV worldwide.
Among the illustrious names awarded over the years are Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Alexandre Desplat and James Newton Howard.
He has received four nominations for the “David di Donatello” for the soundtracks of the films:
- 2011: Benvenuti al Sud;
- 2012: Benvenuti al Nord (soundtrack and original song);
- 2014: Sotto una buona stella.
Scipione has also earned two nominations for the SIAE Music Award (Italian Grammy Award) for the following box-office hit film soundtracks:
- 2025: Succede anche nelle migliori famiglie;
- 2023: Chi ha incastrato Babbo Natale?.
He is a member of the David di Donatello Jury, the European Film Academy and the World Soundtrack Academy (WSA).
Among the most successful films of recent years for which he composed the music are: The Unlikely Prince, A boss in the living room, Si Accettano Miracoli, Mr. Happiness, The Most Beautiful Day in the World, Who framed Santa Claus?, Needing a friend?, The War the Grandpas, Big family, Come far litigare mamma e papà.
His most recent work is the soundtrack for the film Io e te dobbiamo parlare, starring Alessandro Siani and Leonardo Pieraccioni, a 2024 box-office hit.
He is currently working on the composition of the soundtrack for a new TV series and, in parallel, continues the international tour with his concert-show “The Best Italian Soundtracks”.
His latest performance took place in Chengdu (China), at the prestigious Jiazi Philharmonic Hall. Also in China, he was a guest at the 2025 edition of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF).
In 2010, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles, he was the featured artist in a famous concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, for which he created the arrangement of the song Do You Want to Know a Secret?.
